Throughout the process of urbanization, the natural environment plays a crucial role in the urban environment. Likewise, the type of climate is one of the most influential factors in determining the type of architecture. One striking proof of that is the Islamic cities in that what was built in desert regions differed, substantially, in composition and material of construction of what was built in cold regions. This is to inform the rationale of the present paper where a focus is shed on the impacts of climate on the formation of traditional architecture and this is evident in the forms of buildings and materials of construction. Accordingly, we have chosen, as a case study, the Gourara , the province of Tuat trying to answer a pertinent question : How did the climate shape the architecture of this region? In the same vein , we will be investigating the architectural treatments the architects have pursued in such a Saharan climate.en_US
