This work consists in evaluating the effect of salt stress through increasing concentrations of NaCl (200, 400,600mM) on germination and certain morpho-physiological aspects of the two varieties of Chenopodium quinoa Willd. (GIZA and Q102). The germination phase takes place for 7 days. The results of the parameters studied show a high tolerance of the seeds under even very high salt stress. The GIZA variety is more tolerant than the Q102 variety in the germination phase. The second step consists in determining the behavior of quinoa by inducing salt stress by applying the same concentrations of NaCl used on young quinoa seedlings aged 17 days (6 leaf stage) for 6 weeks. This study was carried out in pots under semi-controlled conditions in the farm greenhouse, in order to demonstrate the morpho-physiological response of the GIZA and Q102 variety. The results obtained show that salt stress has a non-significant effect at high concentrations of NaCl on most morphological parameters (The height of the main stem, length of the roots, ratio (stem / root), the fresh plant biomass and I.S.R.S) of the Q102 variety except for the fresh panicle weight parameter which is very highly significant. In addition, salt stress has a significant effect in most parameters in the GIZA variety except for the fresh panicle weight parameter and the I.S.R.S which were statistically insignificant). The evaluation of the effect of salt stress on a few morpho-physiological parameters revealed interspecific and intraspecific variability with respect of salt stress tolerance in the two varieties |
