Abstract: This paper examines the role played by the Algerian banking sector in mobilizing household savings in the period following the financial reforms of 1990. The reform priorities were to give the banking sector its main role in mobilizing savings and financing development. The researchers found that the reforms that affected the banking system did not have a significant impact on family savings in Algeria due to many factors, the most important of which is the prevalence of negative real interest rates in most of the study period, the weakness of saving alternatives and other religious and social factors
