EVALUATION OF ALKALOID CONTENT OF Traganum nutadum AND ITS EFFECT AS ANTIBACTERIAL AND ANTIOXIDANT.

Abstract

Traganum nudatum is a medicinal plant widely used in folk medicine. In the present study, we have carried out the assessment of alkaloid content of the plant and undertaken the biological effects of the crude alkaloid content of the plant as far as the antibacterial and antioxidant activities are concerned. The results revealed that the plant involves an important biological effect towards a set of defined bacteria as well as the free radicals compared to some known compounds. The different plant parts extracts behave more or less active. It was found that the extract of the roots in both studies has efficiency better than the extract of the leaves and this in turn is more effective than the extract of the stems
