Abstract: The National Bureau of Statistics publishes explanatory documents showing that since 1981 it began adopting coverage rates for each event. Amendments have been made to them since 1998 based on the results of the 1998 census and the 2002 household survey. These rates were not addressed in detail or mentioned in numbers, which made Some researchers question these numbers and criticize coverage rates without knowing them, especially after long periods of demographic changes and health developments. The Bureau considers the registration of births for both males and females in the Algerian civil status to be almost comprehensive, especially after 1998. As for the coverage of deaths, it considers it incomplete and varies according to age and gender, as each event has its own characteristics, including the place of its occurrence as well as the conditions for reporting it, which made the researchers interested in studying Covering deaths and even births, and comparing civil status results with various sources, or resorting to indirect methods to estimate them
