dc.description.abstract | This study was designed to evaluate the effect of natural active principles of a medicinal and aromatic plant: the Sage or Salvia officinalis. To do this, the essential oils were extracted by hydrodistillation, separated and identified by GC/MS. Their antibacterial effect was determined, in vitro on Mueller-Hinton medium, against some pathogen enterobacteria. Convincing results were obtained. These results showed that the isolated essential oil is constituted of a Chemotype of nineteen (19) terpene compounds with a predominance of α-Thujone (about 37%). The tests of the antibacterial activity showed that the inhibition of the growth depends on the bacterial species and the concentration of the extracted natural product. Generally, the obtained essential oils have a very important antibacterial therapeutic action against the studied multiresistant germs. From all tested strains, three of them were very sensitive face to different concentrations of the obtained plant extract. The recorded inhibition zones often exceed those caused by the used antibiotic (Rifampin 5μg). These results are promising and provide a scientific validation for the massive use of the Sage. Thus the effect of natural active principles isolated from medicinal plants could well rival that of antibiotics. | en_US |
