Chronic diseases are strong burden for individuals and societies; they are the first cause of mortality in the industrial world and developing countries as Algeria where the epidemiologic transition attends that chronic diseases become a community health problem. Thus, the prevalence of diabetes and hypertension reached alarming threshold. These are life style and behaviour related diseases. Physicians expect that 60% of theses chronic conditions’ prevalence can be decreased only by changing health behaviours. The aim of the present study is to explore attitudes towards health behaviour in chronic patients and their relationship withreligiosity. We hypothesized that chronic patient attitudes towards health behaviour may be negative. To assess health behaviour attitude we construct an Arabic version questionnaire. Other instrument such as Mahdi’s religious behaviour scale are used. Results show that 54% of chronic patients adopt negative attitude towards health behaviour; diabeticpatients have a positive behaviour(53%) compared with negative one of hypertensive patients(38%). Attitude towards health behaviour changed according to sex, age, social economic status and chronicity. Attitude was negative among hypertensiveold women with low socioeconomic status. The correlation between attitudeand the religiosity is positive(R=0.43).en_US
