Résumé: Technological and scientific breakthroughs have radically changed society. Progressively more authors of literature today are weaving both these innovations and themes centred around them into their works. So, for a deeper comprehension of such works, literary criticism ought to include natural sciences as additional fields that provide new tools of analysis. However, Arts/humanities in general are quite distant from natural sciences in terms of interests and aims which could prove problematic. This research suggests a theoretical approach to reconcile these two fields of academia with social sciences and combine them to form a coherent and homogenous framework. Inspired by Bauman’s liquid modernity and Wilson’s Unity of Knowledge; this framework named “Liquid Memetics” is the study of cultural artifacts (memes) on the basis of the interconnectivity of knowledge across the different fields of academia.By adopting this approach, a qualitative analysis will be set forward in order to examine and analyse dystopian narratives and their societies across different mediums other than the novel in order to construct, to some extent, a genealogical understanding of the memetic evolution of such societies. Accordingly, this approach will be based on the categorization of individuals into Homo-Evolutis, Ludens, or Dolor within such dystopian societies and on the basis of Plato’s Kallipolis as a reference to utopian idealism and Nietzschean will to power which alludes to the human condition.; Les percées technologiques et scientifiques ont provoqué des changements fondamentaux au sein de la société moderne.

Titre: The United States and the European Union Policies toward the Middle East Issues of Instability (2003-2016): The Iraq War and the Iranian Nuclear Crisis
Auteur(s): Amel, BOULMAIZ
Résumé: This thesis explores the policies of the United States and the European Union toward key issues of instability in the Middle East between 2003 and 2016, with particular focus on the Iraq War and the Iranian nuclear crisis. It analyzes the patterns of divergence and convergence that defined transatlantic foreign policy toward the Middle East during these focal years. Through employing a qualitative, comparative case study design, the thesis reveals how both players formulated and implemented their strategies in response to shared security challenges, including two key issue areas: Iraq and Iran. The findings reveal that the United States and the European Union often pursued differing policies due to contrasts in strategic culture, foreign policy systems, and perceptions of regional threats. The Iraq War revealed deep transatlantic splits, driven by US unilateralism and EU internal divisions, ultimately weakening Western influence and contributing to long term regional instability. Conversely, the Iranian nuclear crisis illustrated the potential for transatlantic cooperation, particularly as the E3 and later the P5+1 played a chief diplomatic role. Shifts in US strategy under the Obama administration largely made convergence possible, conforming American policy with established EU preferences for multilateral diplomacy. This research fills a gap in fully understanding the complex forces shaping US and EU policy choices and assesses their implications for the future of the Middle East, international diplomacy, and transatlantic relations. It contributes to academic scholarship by offering an integrated theoretical and empirical analysis of transatlantic foreign policy in two critical arenas of Middle Eastern geopolitics.

The Effects of Embedded Multimedia on Learners’ Pronunciation The Case ofFirst-Year Students of English at Biskra University

Titre: The Effects of Embedded Multimedia on Learners’ Pronunciation The Case ofFirst-Year Students of English at Biskra University
Auteur(s): Walid, AOUNALI
Résumé: This doctorate thesis investigates the effects of embedding digital materials under the framework of multimedia-based instruction in teaching English pronunciation and their impact on the Algerian EFL learners. Specifically, it adopts mixed-method research approach that analyses the speech productions of 20 first-year students of English at Biskra University, alongside questionnaire data collected from 201 respondents. In this regard, the study examines whether multimedia resources enhance the potentials of EFL learners to better pronounce English language or not. Accordingly, the participants were divided into two groups following a quasi-experimental design over eight weeks, totalling twelve hours of intensive instruction targeting segmental-level and sentence-level proficiency. The scores were compiled for statistical comparison with the native-speaker audio recordings using the acoustic analysis software Praat in terms of formants’ means, range and standard deviation to measure statistical differences for hypothesis testing and validation. The results revealed significant statistical differences in favour of the alternative hypothesis (H1) at (Spearman's ρ = .306–.415; p < .001; Cronbach's α = .812) showing improvements in the participants’ pronunciation gains post-intervention. Key findings demonstrate that embedding multimedia tools in pronunciation instruction not only enhance learners’ pronunciation and intelligibility but also leads to measurable progress in their ability to produce clear and comprehensive English speech. The study recommends the incorporation of multimedia-based instruction in the EFL syllabi and highlights some problematic areas for investigation in future research on the impact of technology-based language learning and teaching in the age of AI.; Cette recherche doctorale traite du rôle de l’intégration des contenus numériques multimodaux dans l’enseignement de la prononciation en classe d’anglais langue étrangère (ALE) à l’université Mohamed Khider à Biskra.
