This paper presents a three-phase, five-level cascaded shunt active power filter (APF) based on a five-level voltage inverter. This filter is proposed to improve the power quality by eliminate harmonic currents generated by nonlinear load. For sending pulses to the APF gates, we employed the carrier-based PWM strategy and the algorithm of the instantaneous powers real and imaginary is used to determine the current reference signals. Complete simulation of the system validates efficiency of the control law.en_US
