Transferring Realia in Arabian Nightsinto English Case Study: -The Story of the Merchant and the Jinnee -The Story of the Fisher Man and the Jinnee -The Story of the Porter and the Ladies of Baghdad, and theThree Royal Mendicants

Abstract

This study is conducted on one of the famous collection of stories which is the Arabian Nights. It analyzes and compares three chosen stories (the story of the Merchant and Jinnee, The Story of the Fisher Man and Jinnee and The Story of the Porter and the Ladies of Baghdad, and the Three Royal Medicants) from the Arabic into English .The overall aim of the study is to investigate the transfer of realia (cultural items) in the aforementioned book. The present study is carried out to examine the procedures that the translator used when translating realia. Also, it aims at investigating to what extent the translator needed to change the cultural aspects in order to be in harmony with TT reader. The method of investigation is descriptive and comparative analysis at the same time. This method may allow us to analyze the selected data which is classified in tables according to Newmark classification.Cette étude est menée sur l'un des fameux recueils de nouvelles qui est des Mille et une Nuits. Il analyse et compare trois histoires choisies (l'histoire de la Merchant et Jinnee, The Story of the Fisher Man et Jinnee et L'histoire du Porter et les dames de Bagdad, et les Trois royal medicants) de l'arabe en anglais .Le général but de l'étude est d'étudier le transfert de realia dans le livre précité. L’étude présente est réalisée pour examiner les procédures que le traducteur utilisé lors de la traduction realia. En outre, il vise à étudier dans quelle mesure le traducteur nécessaire pour changer les aspects culturels afin d'être en harmonie avec TT lecteur. La méthode d'investigation est une analyse descriptive et comparative dans le même temps. Cette méthode peut nous permettre d'analyser les données sélectionnées qui est classé dans les tableaux selon la classification de Newmark.
