Abstract: The ambiguity in the use of the words "pain" and "suffering" appears when they are, sometimes, synonymous and interchangeable, and return to one another. Sometimes, on the contrary, they are used as different from each other in the Arabic language as in the French language. The term pain is reserved for more or less objectifiable emotions. However, the term suffering has emotions related to reflexivity, language, in short, to everything that refers to the psyche, which gives rise to a subjective response to pain. In a philological approach, this work tries to observe the difference between pain and suffering and to dig the philosophical meaning between these two words; is it a difference of nature or a difference in degree?
