Abstract: The reservoir rock contains many characteristics and factors that affect this reservoir and describe it in terms of quality and storage volume. One of the most important factors present in a reservoir is the permeability, which has a major role in determining the quality of the reservoir. We first touched on the mechanisms of extracting the carrot from the tank even once it reaches the laboratory and how to deal with it before transporting it to avoid breakages that occur during transportation. Then, after that, we observed the processes that are carried out on this core, such as analyzes, pressure measurements, and the application of Darcy's law, so that we can extract the results of each of the porosity, permeability and density, and then we will discuss the most important methods and equations that were used in calculating permeability through the stages that witnessed modifications by scientists. The correlations between permeability and the factors associated with the description of the tank, then we will discuss after that with the clay. We will mention the important types of minerals it contains, and the presence of a high percentage of clay inside the oil tank greatly affects the permeability, meaning that there is no movement of the liquid that is inside the pores in the tank because there is no communication Between these pores, hence the effect of clay on the permeability value The decrease in the value of permeability leads to a decrease in production and affects the quality of production and the quality of the tank. Then we also address how to calculate permeability by means of the hydraulic flow unit, where we put the analysis data for the laboratory for permeability and porosity measurements with the recording data by means of software that enables us to predict permeability at all points of the well and the studied area. Then we turn to how to calculate or predict permeability by means of artificial intelligence, which is that after studying a group of wells in a specific area, we can predict the value of permeability in the wells that follow from the same area. The hydraulic flow unit method and artificial intelligence give us better results than laboratory measurements.
