Abstract

The study aimed to evaluate two systems of working memory which includes the two sub-components(the phonological loop and visuo-spatial sketchpad) in children with mild intellectual disabilies. Working memory is a mental system that allows to hold and processing information temporarily. the study sample consisted of eight cases whose chronological ages is from 14 to 16 years, and mental ages is from 8 to 9 years, and two tests were administered, the first is Colombia test to control the intelligence variable, and the second is the adapted working memory components tests. The study indicated a low memory retrieval capacity in the visuo-spatial sketchpad system, which indicates that children with mild mental disabilities suffer from difficulties in working memory.
