This research is a study of Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte viewed from the feminist perspective. The aim of this study is to illustrate oppression toward the protagonist Jane in the novel. This research shows women’s status in the Victorian era, women at that time were living under men’s control, and they were oppressed in a capitalist, patriarchal society. Besides, the research gives a definition of Feminism and social feminism in order to embody the Feminist aspects of the novel, based on the employment of the socialist feminist theory by Juliet Mitchell and Alison Jaggar. The main conclusion drawn from this research is the identification of woman’s oppression, which is classified into two forms: patriarchal oppression and class oppression. Patriarchal oppression is in the form of giving Jane stereotypes, while class oppression is in the form of giving her bad treatment from the upper class. Jane suffered from both of them most of the time.en_US
