Investigating the Effectiveness of Mind Maps in EFL Classroom The Case of Third Year Students of Kasdi Merbah Uni-versity - Ouargla

Abstract

The present study aims at exploring the effectiveness of using mind map to help students in grasping the course of linguistics and obtain good results in its exam. The main objective of the research is to test and prove the above mentioned hypothesis. The case study of the research was conducted at the University of KasdiMerbahOuargla. Depending on the quantitative approach, an observation was done on two hundred sixty eight student in addition to an interview where twenty three individuals have been interviewed. After analyzing the collected data, results revealed that students are having number of difficulties in understanding the course and they didn’t have enough time to practice mind map. Nonetheless, this research paves the way for further research on overcoming the obstacles that students encounter in the course of linguistics through frequent usage of mind map.

La présente étude vise à explorer l’efficacité de l’utilisation de la carte mentale pour aider les étudiants à saisir le cours de linguistique et d’obtenir de bons résultats dans son examen. L’objectif principal de la recherche est de tester et de prouver l’hypothèse mentionnée ci-dessus. L’étude de cas de la recherche a été menée à l’Université de KasdiMerbah Ouargla. Selon l’approche quantitative, une observation a été faite sur deux cent soixante-huit étudiants en plus d’une entrevue où vingt-trois personnes ont été interviewées. Après avoir analysé les données recueillies, les résultats ont révélé que les étudiants ont un certain nombre de difficultés à comprendre le cours et qu’ils n’ont pas eu assez de temps pour pratiquer la carte mentale. Néanmoins, cette recherche ouvre la voie à d’autres recherches pour surmonter les obstacles que les étudiants rencontrent dans le cours de la linguistique par l’utilisation fréquente de la carte mentale.

تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى استكشاف مدى فعالية استعمال الخريطة الذهنية لمساعدة الطلبة في فهم مقياس اللسانيات وتحصيل نتائج جيدة فيه, ويتمثل الهدف الرئيسي من البحث في اختبار وإثبات الفرضية المذكورة أعلاه حيث أجريت دراسة للحالة البحثية في جامعة قاصدي مرباح ورقلة. اعتمادًا على النهج الكمي وتم إجراء ملاحظة على مائتين وثمانية وستين طالبًا بالإضافة إلى المقابلة والتي تم إجرائها مع ثلاثة وعشرين فردًا وبعد تحليل البيانات التي تم جمعها كشفت النتائج أن الطلاب يواجهون عددًا من الصعوبات في فهم المقياس ولم يكن لديهم الوقت الكافي لممارسة الخريطة الذهنية. ومع ذلك فإن هذا البحث يمهد الطريق لمزيد من البحوث والدراسات حول التغلب على العقبات التي تواجه الطلاب في مقياس اللسانيات من خلال الاستخدام المتكرر للخريطة الذهنية.
