Strategies of translating English Medical Terms into Arabic

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the strategies employed in translating English medical terms into Arabic, and the importance of using the appropriate strategies which may help translators to produce good translations, also, to tackle some of the difficulties that medical translators face, and to provide some recommendations for successful translations. This research adopted a qualitative and quantitative approach (Mixed), entailing a descriptive and comparative analysis. The related sample comprises of 56 English medical terms from the diseases, symptoms, anatomy, treatments, physiology and their equivalent terms in Arabic language. The analysis indicates that Arabic medical translators used a variety of translation strategies for translating English medical terms especially paraphrasing and literal translation.

Cette étude vise à examiner les stratégies employés dans la traduction des termes médicaux anglais en l’Arabe et l’importance d’utiliser les stratégies appropriés qui peuvent qui peut aider les traducteurs à produire de bonnes traductions. Nous avons essayé dans cette L'étude de l'exposition à certaines des difficultés qu'il reçoit interprète médical, cette étude vise à fournir des orientations pour les traductions réussies. Cette recherche a adopté une approche quantitative et qualitative en parallèle avec l'analyse descriptive et étude comparative. L'échantillon lié comprend de 56 termes médicaux anglais des maladies, des symptômes, l'anatomie, des traitements, la physiologie et leurs termes équivalents en arabe la langue. L'analyse indique que les traducteurs médicaux arabes ont utilisé une variété de stratégies de traduction pour traduire les termes médicaux traduction en particulière paraphrase et littérale

ترمي هذه الدراسة إلى التحقق من الإستراتيجيات المطبقة في ترجمة المصطلحات الطبیة من اللغة الإنجليزية إلى اللغة العربیة , و كذا أهمیة استخدام الآليات الملائمة التي قد تساعد المترجم لإنتاج ترجمات جیدة . وقد حاولنا في هذه الدراسة التعرض إلى بعض الصعوبات التي يتلقاها المترجم الطبي ,كما تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى تقديم بعض التوجیهات من أجل ترجمات ناجحة . تبنى هذا البحث المنهجین الكمي و الكیفي بالموازاة مع التحلیل الوصفي والمقارن . تتكون عینات الدراسة من 56 مصطلحا طبیا باللغة الانجلیزية تخص الأمراض والأعراض والتشريح والعلاجات وكذا علم وظائف الأعضاء مع ما يكافئها من مصطلحات في اللغة العربیة . يشیر تحلیل النتائج إلى أن المترجمین الطبيين العرب يستعملون عدة الإستراتيجيات لترجمة المصطلحات الطبیة الانجليزية خاصة أسلوب الترجمة بإعادة الصیاغة و كذا أسلوب الترجمة الحرفیة
