Assessing Literary Self-translation

Abstract

Self-translation goes up deep into discovering that the dimensions of literary translation in the field of translation studies are limitless . It proves that the only limitation of literary self-translation is the preservation of existing meaning in the source text. On one hand, the essential factor that motivates the author to translate his/her own work into another language is to preserve the intended meaning behind composing a literary work, thing that a professional translator may fail to accomplish. On the other hand, the author's bilingualism is another valuable motive behind self-translation. Moreover, self-translation shows that the bilingual author is the first concerned with translating his/her own work into another language. Therefore, this passionate task of literary self-translation motivates us to work on this topic, since our corpus of study is the unique self-translated literary work into English in the Arab world. This research aimed at examining the adaptability of translation quality assessment parameters upon the literary self-translated novel Girls of Riadh which was written and translated by the woman novelist Rajaa Alsanae. Assessing literary self-translation is merely source-oriented process , that was based on analyzing the relationship between the self-translation and its source text. Additionally, it measures the extent of adaptability of translation quality assessment tools on self-translated literature. In short, dealing with such topic made us consider a sub-branch of literary translation in translation studies which deserve to be taken into account.

L'auto-traduction pénètre profondément dans la découverte des dimensions illimité de la traduction littéraire dans le domaine des études du traduction. Sa prouve que la seule limite de la traduction littéraire est la préservation du sens trouvé dans le texte original. D'une part, le facteur essential qui motive l'auteur à traduire son produite littéraire vers une autre langue c'est la préservation du sens voulu d'après la composition d'un produit littéraire, chose que le traducteur professionnel peut ne pas accomplir. D'une autre part, le bilingualisme d'auteur est un autre motivation précieuse derrière d'auto-traduction. De plus, l'auto traduction montre que l'auteur bilingue est le premier concerné par la traduction de son propre produit littéraire vers une autre langue. Par conséquent, cette mission passionnée de l'auto-traduction littéraire nous a motiver pour à travailler sur ce thème, depuis que notre corpus de d'étude est l'unique produit littéraire auto-traduit vers l'Anglais dans le monde Arabe. Cette recherche visant à examiner l'adaptabilité des paramètres de l'évaluation de la qualité du traduction sur le roman littéraire auto-traduit "Filles de Riadh'' qui a été écrite et traduite par la femme écrivaine Rajaa Alsanae . L'évaluation de l'auto-traduction littéraire est un pure processus orienté vers la source qui était a base d'analyses des relations entre le texte original et sa version auto-traduite. En outre, elle mesure l'étendue de l'adaptabilité des outils de l'évaluation de qualité du traduction sur la littérature auto-traduite. Pour faire court, portant sur un thème pareille nous a fait envisager une sous-branche de la traduction littéraire dans les études du traduction qui mérite d'être prise en compte.

تقوم الترجمة الذاتية بالغوص في عمق الاطَّلاع على الأبعاد الللامتناهية للترجمة الأدبية ضمن مجال دراسات الترجمة. حيث أنها تثبت أن قيدها الوحيد للترجمة الأدبية تكمن في الحفاظ على المعنى المتواجد في النص الأصل. من جهة فأن العامل الأساسي الذي تحفز الكاتب لترجمة أعماله الأدبية بنفسه من لغة لأخرى هو الحفاظ على المعنى المقصود من كتابة نص أدبي و هو الشيء الذي قد لا يُوفّق المترجم المختص في تحقيقه’ ومن جهة أخرى تحلّي الكاتب بالازدواجية اللغوية التي تعدَّ الدّافِع قيِّم آخر للولوج للترجمة الذاتية. بالإضافة لذلك تقوم الترجمة الذَاتِيّة بإظهار أن الكاتب ذو ازدواجية هو المعني الأول بترجمة أعماله من لغة لأخرى. استنادًا لذلك’ كانت مهمة الترجمة الذاتية الأدبية الشغوفة حافزًا أساسيه للعمل على هذا الخصوص’ حيث أن مدونة بحثنا تعد في العمل الأدبي الوحيد في العالم العربي الذي يندرج ضمن إطار الترجمة الذاتية إلى الإنجليزية. يهدف هذا البحث إلى تحليل مدى تكيًّف معايير تقييم الترجمة على الرواية الأدبية مترجمة ذاتيًا "بنات الرياض" التي كُتِبَت و تُرْجِمَت من قِبَل الروائية السعودية رجاء الصانع. حيث يعد تقييم الترجمة الذاتية الأدبية ذات عملية بحتة موجهة نحو النص الأصل ’ و التي تعتمد عل تحليل العلاقة بين الترجمة الأدبية و نصِّلها الأصل. بالإضافة إلى أنها تقيس مدى تكيُّف معايير تقييم الترجمة على الأدب المترجم ذاتيّة. خلاصة القول فإن التعامل مع هكذا موضوع جعلنا تضع بعين الاعتبار فرع من فروع الترجمة الأدبية ضمن دراسات الترجمة’ و الذي يستحق أن يُؤخَذ بعين الاعتبار.
