An Analysis of the Inconsistency Problem in the Translation of Medical Terms from English into Arabic.

Abstract

This study is conducted to investigate the problem of inconsistency in the translation of medical terms from English into Arabic. The goal of the current study is to display the difficulties of translating medical terms, and how professional and non-professional Arab translators tackled them. Also it investigated equivalency in medical terminology and theoretically examined the idea of how medical terms function in both English and Arabic, such as the names of ailments, disorders, symptoms, and viruses. This study is descriptive by nature, both qualitative and quantitative analysis are used in this research. The data consists of seven medical terms and their renditions in Arabic, each term is analyzed in both SL and TL according to the samples collected. Translation procedures used for dealing with each medical term is investigated using the theoretical model that was proposed by AlZawawy, A. (2016).

Cette étude est menée pour étudier le problème de l'incohérence dans la traduction des termes médicaux de l'anglais vers l'arabe. L'objectif de la présente étude est de montrer les difficultés de traduction des termes médicaux et comment les traducteurs arabes professionnels et non professionnels les ont abordées. Il a également étudié l'équivalence de la terminologie médicale et examiné théoriquement l'idée du fonctionnement des termes médicaux en anglais et en arabe, tels que les noms de maladies, de troubles, de symptômes et de virus. Cette étude est descriptive par nature, des analyses qualitatives et quantitatives sont utilisées dans cette recherche. Les données se composent de sept termes médicaux et de leurs interprétations en arabe, chaque terme est analysé à la fois en SL et en TL selon les échantillons collectés. Les procédures de traduction utilisées pour traiter chaque terme médical sont étudiées à l'aide du modèle théorique proposé par Al-Zawawy, A. (2016).

تعُرًج هذه الدراسة على مشكلة غياب الثبات في ترجمة المصطلحات الطبية من الإنجليزية إلى العربية. حيث ترمي هذه الدراسةالى ابراز الصعوبات التي تعتري ترجمة المصطلحات الطبية وكيف تعامل المترجمون المحترفون وغير المحترفون معها. كما تطرقت هذه الدراسة إلى التكافؤ في المصطلحات الطبية بين ا للغتين الإنجليزية والعربية وكيفية سك المصطلحات الطبية في كل منهما، مثل أسماء الأمراض والاضطرابات وكذا الأعراض والفيروسات. تعُتبر هذه الدراسة وصفية بطبيعتها، وقد تم استخدام التحليل النوعي والكمي في هذا البحث. تتكون البيانات من سبعة مصطلحات طبية بالإنجليزية وما يقابلها من ترجمات باللغة العربية، تم القيام بتحليل كل مصطلح في اللغة المصدر واللغة الهدف وفقًا للعينات التي ت م جمع هُا. ثم قمنا بالتحقق من إجراءات الترجمة المستخدمة في كل مصطلح طبي باستخدام النموذج النظري الذي اقترحه عمرو الزواوي، أ.(2016).
