شكلت القصة في قصيدة "أطلس عسال" موضوعا رئيسيا تناوله القاص بأسلوب متميز، حيث مزج الشاعر بين الفن الشعري والفن القصصي، مما شكل فن جديد فهو القصة الشعرية، إلى أنه فن نادر. انقسمت الدراسة إلى مدخل وفصلين؛ تناول المدخل طبيعة الشعر في العصر الأموي باعتبار أن القصيدة في هذا العصر، وجاء الفصل الأول: القصة في فن الشعر، أما الفصل الثاني فبحث عن مقومات البنية الفنية والسردية في القصيدة المدروسة.
