Investigating Teachers` and learners` Parents` Attitudes towards Current English Language Teaching Textbooks in Ouargla Primary Schools

Abstract

This study aims at evaluating My Book of English for third year primary school and My Book of English for fourth year Primary school and at investigating the attitudes of both primary school teachers and parents of the learners towards those current English textbooks used in Algeria. In this regard, content analysis of both books was conducted based on a synthesized checklist and two questionnaires were administered accordingly where a convenient sampling was chosen. The first questionnaire was devoted for forty primary school teachers of English in Ouargla and the second one was devoted for two hundred and sixty-seven parents in the same city. The study employed both quantitative and qualitative methods in order to collect data. The findings proved the effectiveness of both textbooks in that they meet the criteria set in the checklist. In addition, both learners` parents and teachers revealed positive attitudes towards them arguing that they are useful in developing the learners` skills and competences, mentioning some valuable recommendations. The findings were significant but cannot be generalized to all primary schools in Algeria. The reason why, more researches are needed in this regard.

Cette étude vise a évalué manuel « Mon livre d’Anglais »de 3 éme AP et 4 éme AP d’une part, et vérifié les attitudes des enseignants et les parents des apprenants d’une autre part envers les manuels utilisés actuellement en Algérie. Pour réaliser cet objectif, d’abord on a analysé le contenu des deux livres en basant sur la sélection des critères de l’évaluation. Ensuite, on a préparé deux questionnaires destinés à une catégorie bien précise : le 1er est adressé aux enseignants d’Anglais au primaire à Ouargla, tandis que le 2éme est adressé aux parents des élèves dans la même ville. Dans cette étude on a employé une méthode mixte de recherche pour collecter les informations. Les résultats ont prouvé l’efficacité de deux livres et leur compatibilité avec les critères d’évaluation choisis, En plus, Ainsi que les parents des apprenants, les enseignants ont révélé une attitude positive envers les deux manuels, en confirmant que ces livres ont développé les compétences d’apprentissages, Ils ont même proposé quelques recommandations pertinentes. Les résultats étaient signifiants (importants) mais, on ne peut pas le généralisés dans toutes les écoles primaires de l’Algérie, c’est pour on trouve pue ce domaine de recherche est très propice.

تهدف هذه الدراسة لتقييم كتابي "كتابي للغة الإنجليزية" للسنة الثالثة و الرابعة على التوالي في الطور الابتدائي كما تهدف لرصد سلوك أساتذة تعليم اللغة الإنجليزية في هذا الطور وكذا أولياء المتعلمين تجاه الكتابين المقررين في الجزائر، ولتحقيق هذا الهدف تم ' تحليل محتوى الكتابين وفق معايير محددة ومنتقاة، كما تمت الاستعانة باستبيان موجه لمعلمي اللغة الإنجليزية(السنة الثالثة والرابعة ابتدائي) وباستبيان آخر موجه لأولياء المتعلمين في الولاية نفسها، وقد تمت الاستعانة بالطريقة المختلطة في البحث لجمع المعطيات وتحصيلها، وقد أثبتت النتائج فعالية كال الكتابين وتوافقها مع معايير التقييم المنتقاة، وقد أبدى كل من المعلمين وأولياء المتعلمين تجاوبا مع الكتابين، كما أكدوا أنهما يسهمان في تطوير مهارات التعلم والكفاءات، وقد اقترحوا بعض التوصيات القيمة، وعلى الرغم من القيمة العلمية للنتائج إلا أنه لا يمكن تعميمها على المدارس الابتدائية في الجزائر مما يدل على ضرورة استمرار البحث في هذا الميدان
