Abstract

The present study, which is entitled Media News and their Effect on Public Opinion’, aims at answering the principal question about the effects produced by the TV report that was broadcast on the Nahar channel about the female students living in halls of residence on the university student residents in Ouargla. To answer this question, we depended on 03 secondary questions: 1. What are the effects that the report had on the students outside the residence ? 2. What were the reactions of the parents of the students living in hall of residence in Ouargla ? 3. How did the report affect the studies of the resident students ? We have followed a number of methodological procedures which included the descriptive-analytical method. We have depended on some instruments to collect data, documents, and a questionnaire. The questionnaire was administered to a sample of female students living in two halls of residence in Ouargla: 2000 Beds Residence and Mohammed Tahar Abidi Residence. The sample consists of 192 students. The selection of the sample followed the stratificational-proportional method. Out of the total of administered questionnaires, 188 were returned. The findings show that the report on the Nahar channel affected society. This is shown in the following results : · The report had impacts on the students outside the residence. · The students’ parents reacted, especially using verbal threatening and extra- control over their daughters continuously. · The report affected the students’ level of achievement, and it encouraged others to improve their study level.
