The present work was undertaken to evaluate the microbiological quantity of biological crusts of three stations representative of the arid region. These stations are M'Rara (El Oued region) Hassi Miloud stations and Oued El N'sa (Region of Ouargla) located in south east of Algeria. The microbial biomass was quantified by the method of enumeration of major microbial groups (bacteria, actinomycetes, fungi, algae) and estimated by the method of fumigation-extraction. The overall results of enumeration of microbial groups at the three stations show the predominance of the bacterial microflora, second by fungal microflora and finally by algal microflora. It is noteworthy that the group of actinomycetes was revealed only at the Oued El N'sa station. The results for the determination of microbial biomass seems to vary from one station to another, however, the best results were recorded at the M'Rara station. In fact, the results recorded for the estimate of the biomass of microbial carbon are 12.5, 10.2 and 8.1 mg kg-1 and those of microbial nitrogen is of 2.5, 1.5 and 1 mg kg-1 respectively for M'Rara station Hassi Miloud station and station of El Oued N'sa. The overall results show the ability of microorganism’s arid soils to adapt to environmental extremes that characterize arid environments
