Abstract

The study named:The Use of Notes in Translating the Historical Book “The Life of Emir Abd El Kader” Written by Charles Henry Churchill Translated by Abu El QuassemSaad Allah from English into Arabicaims at analyzinghis translation it in terms of the strategies that are adopted; exploring the translator’s intervention in translating the historical discourse; his choice of omitting and adding expressions and his use of notes in addition to examining the purposes of this intervention. It also seeks to show the hidden part of the personality of the historian Abu El QuassemSaad Allah, which is the translational part. As the latter did not know any foreign language before the age of thirty, he translated several researches and essays from French and English. Concerning books, he translated the book entitled “The Life of Abdel Kader” from English into Arabic written by Charles Henry Churchill. This book is considered as the most reliable historical document that narrates Abdel Kader’s life. This study will shed light on this translation by analyzing in an attempt to find out the reason behind his intervention and measuring the degree of success in applying the principles of the science of translation taking into account that Abu El QuassemSaad Allah did not study translation.L'étude nommée: L'utilisation des notes dans la traduction du Livre historique "La vie de l'émir Abd El Kader" Écrit par Charles Henry Churchill Traduit par Abu El QuassemSaad Allah de l'anglais vers Arabicaims à analyzinghis traduction en termes de stratégies qui sont adoptées; explorer l'intervention du traducteur dans la traduction du discours historique; son choix d'omettre et en ajoutant des expressions et son utilisation de notes en plus d'examiner les fins de cette intervention. Elle vise également à montrer la partie cachée de la personnalité de l'historien Abou El QuassemSaad Allah, qui est la partie de la traduction. Comme ce dernier ne savait pas une langue étrangère avant l'âge de trente ans, il a traduit plusieurs recherches et essais du français et de l'anglais. En ce qui concerne les livres, il a traduit le livre intitulé "La vie d'Abdel Kader" de l'anglais vers l'arabe écrit par Charles Henry Churchill. Ce livre est considéré comme le document historique le plus fiable qui raconte la vie d'Abdel Kader. Cette étude fera la lumière sur cette traduction en analysant dans une tentative de trouver la raison derrière son intervention et de mesurer le degré de réussite dans l'application des principes de la science de la traduction en tenant compte du fait que Abou El QuassemSaad Allah n'a pas étudié la traduction.
