Abstract: The aim of the present study is to analyse characters in Charles Dickens’s “David Copperfield” following a descriptive analytical approach and opting for Chatman’s and Forster’s theories of character and characterisation. The starting point of the study is to reconsider the character as an important element in the Modern novel after being subordinated to plot in ancient theories. Thus the study is divided into two chapters: the theoretical one examines all what concerns theory of character and characterization; the practical one tries to analyse the characters in “David Copperfield” from different perspectives and traits as presented by Dickens.
