dc.description.abstractIn an attempt to construct a religious mentality that is founded on as much scientific precision as possible, a re-examination of the religious thought on the basis of the messenger’s character and following an academic approach is required, which, in turn, necessitates a reconsideration not only of the compatibility of the different pinpointed dates chronicling the life of Muhammad – peace be upon him, – but also of the course of the new religion. The aim of this paper is to unravel what is mythical and fictional in the prophet’s life, foregrounding aspects such as his birth and the problematization of the appellation. Additionally, light will be shed on that which encouraged a concentration on these different elements considering the residual contradictions and differences between news and tales that question – even mythologize – the events. Through their studies, each of Maruf al Rusafi (The Mohammedan Character or Solving the Sacred Enigma) and HishamDjait (The Life of Muhammad) tried to disclose all that is mythic in the life of the prophet, Muhammaden_US
