Sustainable development is the most important issue of the 20th and 21st centuries. It reflects development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. It has three pillars: economic, social and environmental. Economically efficient, socially equitable and environmentally sustainable. This paper examines part of the social pillar of sustainable development represented by gender equality (the empowerment of women) and eradicate extreme poverty and hunger in the Algerian population. These goals of social pillar are measured by several indicators, including: the percentage of women in primary, secondary and higher education, in addition, another indicator is the proportion of females in jobs outside the agriculture sector and the proportion of females who are literate for males. This target is also measured by the percentage of the poor population in the total population and the prevalence of malnutrition among the population.en_US
