The Subtitability of English Emergency Medical Abbreviations into Arabic Case Study: "ER" Episode 16th Season 11th

Abstract

This study aims to provide the translation trainees and translators with the techniques potentially used in subtitling English medical abbreviations used in emergency rooms into Arabic. And to expose them to the difficulties that might be encountered when dealing with the translation of such items. This research adopted a comparative analytic approach to analyzing and describing the subtitling of English medical abbreviations used in ER into Arabic. We have selected randomly ten sentences from the transcripts of the 16th episode season 11th of the series "ER" to indicate the most adopted technique to subtitle medical abbreviation into Arabic and to investigate to what extent abbreviation in this field could be subtitled. The results show that: The most used techniques used: "Paraphrasing" and "Partial Omission" .The least techniques used are: "Abbreviation for Abbreviation" and" Omission".

Cette étude vise à fournir aux stagiaires et aux traducteurs des traductions les techniques potentiellement utilisées dans le sous-titrage des abréviations médicales anglaises utilisées dans les salles d'urgence en arabe. Et pour les exposer aux difficultés qui pourraient être rencontrées lors de la traduction de ces articles. Cette recherche a adopté une approche analytique comparative pour analyser et décrire le sous-titrage des abréviations médicales anglais utilisées en ER en arabe. Nous avons sélectionné au hasard dix phrases des transcriptions du 16e épisode de la saison 11 de la série "ER" pour indiquer la technique la plus adoptée pour sous-titre de l'abréviation médicale en arabe et pour déterminer dans quelle mesure l'abréviation .

تسعى هذه الدراسة إلى تزويد المتدربين في ميدان الترجمة والمترجمين بالتقنيات المستخدمة في سترجة المختصرات الطبية المستخدمة في غرف الطوارئ من الإنجليزية إلى اللغة العربية. وتعريضهم للصعوبات التي قد تصادفهم أثناء التعامل مع ترجمة هاته المختصرات. لقد اعتمدنا في بحثنا على المنهج التحليلي المقارن, وذلك من أجل تحليل ووصف سترجة المختصرات الطبية الإنجليزية إلى اللغة العربية. حيث اخترنا عشوائيا عشر جمل من نص الحلقة السادس عشر من الموسم الحادي عشر من مسلسل "اي ار" )غرفة الطوارئ. ( للإشارة إلى أكثر التقنيات المعتمدة لسترجة المختصر الطبي إلى اللغة العربية, والتحقق إلى أي مدى يمكن سترجة الاختصار في هذا المجال. و تظهر النتائج ما يلي:أن أكثر التقنيات المستعملة في سترجة هاته المختصرات هي: "إعادة الصياغة" و"الحذف الجزئي".أن أقل التقنيات المستعملة هي: "اختصار مقابل اختصار" و "الحذف الكلي".
