Title: An Investigation of Teachers’ and Students’ Attitudes towards Code Switching Implication in EFL Classroom: The Case of undergraduate students at the Department of Letters and English Language–KMUO

Abstract: The phenomenon under study is manifested in Algerian society Thus it is has been a crucial issue in EFL class. A numerous studies have been conducted on CS. Yet, in Algeria few researches shed lights on this phenomenon within EFL teaching context. Thereupon The present study explores students‟ as well as teachers‟ attitudes towards Code Switching implication in EFL classrooms together with its various functions at the Department of Letters and English Language KMUO. Additionally, this research focused on three main objectives: (1)To investigate teachers‟ attitudes towards CS (2) To examine students‟ attitudes towards the use of CS and (3) To identify various functions of teachers‟ CS in an EFL classroom. A mixed method approach was used throughout the integration of both questionnaire and interview. The data collection is based on eight teachers‟ recorded interview and a questionnaire administered to a group of undergraduate students who belong to the aforementioned department. They were appointed to test hypotheses related the earlier mentioned objectives . The findings showed that an consensus view among teachers and students towards CS in EFL classroom. Cette recherche tente d’explorer certains phénomènes sociolinguistiques qui résultent du contact de langues dans le contexte algérien, princièrement, le phénomène de l’alternance codique Arabe/Français/Anglais. Elle vise à analyser L'attitude des étudiants et des enseignants vis-à-vis de l'inclusion des alternances codiques dans les classes, au sein de départements de langue Anglaise et lettres, à l'Université d'Ouargla. Elle essaye, aussi, d’identifier les différentes fonctions qui poussent les enseignants et les étudiants inscrivent en licence Anglaise à alterner les langues lors des conversations dans les classes au sein du département. Le travail de terrain se base sur un questionnaire avec les étudiants et des interviews avec les enseignements.indings showed that an consensus view among teachers and students towards CS in EFL classrooms. يتناول هذا البحث مسألة التناوب اللغوي والتي تعد ظاهرة متغلغلة في المجتمع الجزائري, من وجهة نظر الأساتذة و الطلبة الدارسين للغة الانجليزية كلغة أجنبية.حيث تمت هاته الدراسة في قسم الآداب و اللغة الانجليزية بجامعة قاصدي مرباح ورقلة. وقد انتهج الباحثون طرق مختلفة لجمع البيانات للدراسة تمثلت في استبيان موجه للطلبة ما قبل التدرج و حوار مسجل مع ثماني أساتذة.رغم انتشار التناوب اللغوي اجتماعيا إلا أن البحوث حوله شحيحة خاصة في الوسط التعليمي للغات الأجنبية. و قد أظهرت النتائج توافقا مابين الطلبة و الأساتذة حول استعمال هاته الظاهرة أثناء الحصص الدراسية.حيث خلصوا إلى إن التناوب اللغوي سيكون ذا نفع للتحصيل اللغوي إذا ما كان استعماله ممنهجا.

Cette recherche tente d’explorer certains phénomènes sociolinguistiques qui résultent du contact de langues dans le contexte algérien, princièrement, le phénomène de l’alternance codique Arabe/Français/Anglais.
