The issue of women's access to the public sphere in patriarchal societies is related to "diversity/ mixing". This subject is of great importance both for understanding the evolution of "dominantdominated" sexual relationships, and also the ways change is operated in a given society. These changes pertain to a shift in thoughts and mentality for the individual, and society as a whole. The data of this qualitative study among young Algerian scholars reveals conflicting relationships in the distribution of sexual spaces. The combination of representations from the traditional system of norms is responsible of these conflicts. Although these young people are educated and aspiring to modernity because they criticize traditions and have not adopted the same behavior as their elders, they remain hostile to the idea of a total occupation of public spaces by women.en_US
