Abstract: | The Islamic financial system in Malaysia has witnessed a tremendous growth since its introduction in 1963. It began with the establishment of the Malaysian Pilgrims Fund Board (Tabung Haji) and the country’s first Islamic bank, Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (BIMB), since the passing of the first legislation of Islamic finance in 1983 i.e. the Islamic Banking Act 1983.1 The industry continues to progress until today, And Malaysian-Islamic banking system is operating side-by-side with the conventional banking system, the Malaysian model is now one of the most advanced Islamic banking systems in the world. This paper will discuss the development of the Islamic banking industry in Malaysia with the goals of evaluating their Overall performance and its role in the financing of the economy. |
