Abstract Our work aims to identify and study the importance of Coccinellidae present in the regions of Ouargla and Oued Souf. A sampling with Barber pots and sweep net in three different palm groves (maintained, semi-maintained, not maintained) was achieved in each of the study areas. The use of Barber pots has allowed to inventory 180 species of arthropods divided between three classes, 16 orders and 97 families. How weaver, the use of the sweep net has allowed the capture of 120 species divided between two classes, 14 orders and 71 families. The Insecta are the most frequent in the different habitats. This study has allowed also to identify six species of Coccinellidae, with a remarkable abundance of Pharoscymnus ovoideus and Pharoscymnus numidicus. The morphological study showed that the elytra and the pronotum provied the maximum of determination criteria. The anatomical study reveals that the genitalia can be used in the identification provided that structures are described correctly. As to the place of Coccinellidae in arthropodofaune captured by Barber pots, the highest rate that this family presented is 2.15%. In the order Coleoptera, the family of Coccinellidae is presented with rates of between 6.25% and 28.07%. Howweaver, the Coccinellidae captured by the sweep net, were represented with a maximum rate of 9.68% of the total number of Arthropoda and 33.49 % in the order of Coleoptera. Regarding the efficiency of Pharoscymnus ovoideus and Pharoscymnus numidicus in biological control against Parlatoria blanchardi, our experience shows that Pharoscymnus ovoideus is a good biological control agent, for its high rate of abundance and its voracity wich is superior to that of Pharoscymnus numidicus. We note also that females of both species are most useful in biological control against the white scale date palm.
