Abstract: From the middle of the twentieth century, international tourism has developed continuously, making the tourism sector rise to industry and becoming one of the most cost-effective sectors in the global economy, accounting for more than a third of world trade in services. These facts make us recognize the need to develop this sector in Algeria, in view of its economic importance. This article aims to highlight the potential of ecotourism in Algeria, by studying the following problem: Can eco-tourism become a locomotive to develop the tourism sector in Algeria? In order to answer this question, we touched upon the concept of ecotourism and the internal and external factors affecting it. We also referred to ecotourism and its reality in Algeria, by identifying the environmental diversity that the latter has and the extent of its exploitation in tourism. We have proposed currency solutions to develop this sector in Algeria. In our study, we used the analytical descriptive approach with the study of the state of Blida. In our study we can deduce the richness of Algeria in terms of natural tourism capabilities that remain untapped. The educational sector must play its role by educating young people to respect the environment and good treatment of tourists, and the state must establish a clear tourism strategy.
