Abstract: The camel is the only species to adapt to the harsh ecological Saharan and also remains a potential provider of animal protein. The study focused on the Ghardaïa region through two areas Metlili and Zelfana, both renowned for camel breeding par excellence. Of the 293 registered camel drivers, 56 were approached as well as 08 owners of specialized farms through semi-structured interviews. Following field investigations, three types of camel breeding systems are to be considered ; whether they embody a system on a course or in (temporary) stabling, the fundamental traits of each are highlighted at a time when the emergence of the specialized camel "dairy" system begins to take shape.
