The Greater Flamingo Phoenicopterus roseus has been breeding in three sites in the Algerian Sahara between 2007 and 2017; Sebkhet El Maleh (El Golea), Sebkhet Safioune (Ouargla) and Chott Merouane (El Meghaier). we have registered 13 breeding attempts of this species, six of which resulted in hatching and fledging chicks.. The highest breeding success rate (86%) was recorded at Chott Merouane with 2400 chicks. The species attempted to breed eight reprise at El Goléa, six of which failed. The causes of failure are many, the most common are human intrusions and canids (jackal and fox) and early drying due to rising temperatures coinciding with egg laying and hatching.en_US
