This research paper aims to analyze empirically one of the fundamental dimensions of date production technology: The plantation density of palms. Our study area is the entire region of Biskra (Algeria). We used an extensive database of 21 503 date producers distributed in 33 municipalities, to reveal the regularities present in our region. The analysis shows that the distribution of tree planting density is heterogeneous over a very wide spectrum. After a statistical investigation by an analysis of variance followed by a test of less significant differences resulting in a classification of the municipal communes, a zoning is derived in order to depict the differential of date tree density over the totality of the region. This differential is explained by two region-specific factors: the presence of irrigation water sources and joint-products crops.en_US
