Abstract: This article aims to describe and analyze the demographic situation in Algeria before and after independence , Where the focus was on changes and changes in birth rates, mortality, fertility and population growth through various censuses and surveys conducted by Algeria since independence , With the presentation of some of the theories of population, the path and stages of the theory of demographic transition, and what stage reached Algeria ? It was concluded that Algeria did not deviate from the course of the demographic transition theory in the first two stages because it had eliminated them , And then entered the eighties of the last century in the third phase and adopted at the beginning the same course as is customary in theory , And later deviated due to the exceptional circumstances experienced by the country during the nineties, And the deterioration in social, economic and security conditions, , Which had a significant and direct impact on the demographic situation of the country, which led to a rise in mortality rate with the decline in the birth rate. The fertility rate, which is close to the level of replacement, and these conditions have caused the return of the birth rate again in recent years .
