Abstract Online social networks such as Facebook and Twitter are in exponential growing, they generate considerable amounts of personal and social data about users and their interactions. This data is an important source of information for several applications such as recommendation systems, community detection and marketing. Such applications require useful information about the personal data and the social content of the user. However, the current structure of social networks does not allow to extract this information in a simply way. Despite, major efforts have emerged from the semantic web community to address this problem trying to represent the user as accurately as possible. These Semantic Models are unable to give a sense to the user-generated content. For this, more mining and sense-making need to be done on the content, to enrich the user profile. In this thesis, we introduce a generic model which combines two disciplines (Text Mining and Semantic models). The proposed model incorporates the text mining approach into a semantic model to enrich the user profile by including information on user's posts classifications. In an attempt to: (1) group online contents into topics under a top-down approach, (2) infer and model the temporal dynamic interests of users, (3) group users with similar interests and preferences, (4) attribute a mechanism for querying the system data. We evaluate the proposed model by building a social application that uses a large Facebook dataset. This model can be used as a basic structure for several applications such as recommendation systems.en_US
