Abstract: The aim of this paper is to identify the most important stations of NGOs and the environment in international and regional agendas, in light of the development of international environmental law at the Stockholm Conference in 1972, in parallel with the high level of environmental awareness in the developed world in the early 1970s. The World Wide Compact for Nature in October 1982, ten years after the Stockholm Conference, aims at preserving nature, diversity and priorities of international cooperation. The Earth Conference in Rio de Janeiro, 1992, was held ten years later. The Convention on Climate Change and Biodiversity and Agenda 21, and the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, one of the most important legal instruments at the international level to address climate change, as well as the 1998 Aarhus Convention on Access To information, participation and public participation in decision-making, access to justice in environmental matters, the World Summit on Sustainable Development 2002, the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development Rio + 20 and finally the Climate Change Conference in Paris 2015.
