Abstract: Ouargla is one of the most important southern regions in Algeria and North Africa in general because of its richeness of raw materials wealth, and because of the depth of the historical to roots of folk historical memory, which preserves the cultural and civilization treasures of the region, especially customs and traditions. We have tried in this article to show the historical depth of the region and its cultural roots and its relations with the different historical periods. Thus ,a historical descriptive approach is adopted based on the available documents, though rare, in the pre-history period, which extends between (1400 - 500) . We also touched on the historical roots of the pre-Islamic Christian era (500 BC - 7 CE) and on its relation to the Phoenicians and the Romans and in the successive periods of the Islamic era (7 CE - 17 CE) to the colonial era passing through the Ottoman era. Then we tried to identify and describe the inhabitants structure of of the region and their association with Arabism and Arabic on the one hand and Islam as a religion on the other hand, and since academic research imposes methodological controls, especially when it comes to the historical proof of facts, events and news as well, we did not neglect the historical popular memory, which we believe it holds a cultural, historical and civilizational heritage that cannot be overlooked and evaded by the pretext of not being documented and orally transmitted through generations
