Abstract: The quota system " is one of the mechanisms that allow women to get access to elected councils and to devote her political participation. Many countries have pursued this system and have proven its efficacy, which is a mechanism of positive discrimination as stipulated in Article (4) of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (cedaw)1979. Algeria adopted the quota system for the first time in 2012 legislative and local elections as a part of reforms series that strengthen woman's political participation and enhance her political and social status. Constitutional amendment of 2008 was the first of these reforms that guaranteed this participation. In implementing of this amendment, organic law 12-03 of 2012, which specified the modalities to expand the chance of woman in elected councils, was proved. Indeed, the woman was able to contest the election within parties’ lists in specified proportions, which allowed many women to enter National People's Assembly and state and municipal people's assemblies
