The regional disembarkation platforms are a new mechanism to deal with the migration crisis in the Mediterranean, proposed by the European Commission on 28 June 2018,The objective of these platforms is to provide quick and safe disembarkation of persons rescued at sea, on both sides of the Mediterranean, in line with international law, in close cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Organization for Migration, and in partnership with relevant third countries. This concept should contribute to the equitable shared regional responsibility in replying to complex migration challenges, but in fact, it aims to protect European borders against migration flows, to the detriment of human rights, including the right to seek asylum, by transferring responsibility for control migration to third countries.
