Abstract: The present synchronic study of the flora of succession was carried out in the abandoned cereal perimeters in the region of Ouargla (Sahara, Algeria). The stations selected are spread over four dropout age groups. The results obtained indicate the identification of 68 species distributed over 20 botanical families with the dominance of Poaceae, Asteraceae, Brassicaceae and Amaranthaceae and 59 genera with the remarkable contribution of the genera Launaea, Bromus. Regarding the contribution of biological types, 08 groups are determined with the dominance of Therophytes. The analysis of the flora of succession according to the different categories of abandonment age shows a heterogeneous distribution of the plant species identified. The presence of Poaceae, Asteraceae, Brassicaceae and Amaranthaceae is remarkable for all of the abandonment age categories with a strong dominance of Therophytes. Species of Saharo-Arabian, Mediterranean origin and those endemic to North Africa are the most represented across the different age categories of abandonment. The analysis of the succession flora made it possible to characterize the stages of succession after abandonment of the cereal areas in the Ouargla region.
