Abstract: This study deals with the oasis of Ouargla, considered to be one of the main oases of the Algerian Sahara. This oasis is now in decline under the effects of its land fragmentation, the crumbling of its plots, urbanization, incineration of its palm groves and climate change that threaten with disappearance this oasis, grudged from aridity and desert at the cost of self-sacrifice. Our results indicate that the oasis of Ouargla underwent a phase of progression followed by a period of stagnation and regression. State development programs and local restoration initiatives have again triggered a revival and reversal towards oasis agricultural activity in recent years.
