The purslane (Portulaca oleracea L.) is a food plant widely used throughout the world for its culinary and medicinal properties. The purpose of this work is to evaluate the antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of aqueous decocts from the seeds of three purslane origins (Ouargla, El Oued and Egypt). The determination of total phenols, flavonoids and total tannins of aqueous decocts was carried out by spectrophotometric colorimetric methods, the contents of these metabolites are variable, from 24.75± 0.33 to 46.13± 3.50 mg eq AG/g of MS, 1.51± 0.13 to 5.03± 0.06 mg QR eq/g DM and 24.67± 0.32 to 46.09± 3.50 mg AG eq/g DM, respectively. The assessment of the antioxidant activity was carried out by the ABTS test, which showed that the decocts of seeds from Ouargla and Egypt are the most effective to reduce ABTS°+, with IC50 of 16.63± 0.22 and 16.78± 0.93 μg/ml respectively. In addition, the research of antimicrobial activity by the method of antibiogramme on discs and wells showed that the decocts of seeds of Egypt have a relatively important inhibitor effect than those obtained from local seeds (El Oued and Ouargla) towards Listeria monocytogene, with inhibition diameters of (11± 1 to 15±5.57 mm) against (8.33± 7.02 to 13 ±1.73) and (9.67± 4.62 to 14.67±5.03 mm), respectively, for the disc diffusion method and (6.67± 0.58 to 10.33± 1.53 mm) against (7± 1 to 8.67± 2.08 mm) and (7± 1 to 9.33± 0.58 mm), for the well diffusion method. While, these extracts have almost the same inhibitory actions vis-à-vis Candida albicans. In contrast, all extracts were inactive against Aspergillus carbonarius and Micrococcus letus. These results could justify the validity of certain therapeutic virtues granted to this plant in traditional medicine
