The study of diphthongs is of great importance in modern phonetic studies; because it reveals to the scholar the phonetic changes occurring in the Arabic word، especially those that are included in omission، substitution، or iʿlāl. The study of diphthongs is closely related to the supposed origin of words in Arabic; as most of the extensions of diphthongs appear in the deep structure of words، and this structure is subject to phonetic changes that may affect the diphthong; i.e.، change its form، or end its existence in the structure of the word. This research paper has taken the long heavier diphthongs as its title; as it will examine these diphthongs and the statements of the early scholars in comparison with the modern phonetic scholarship. Perhaps this will be of benefit to those who enter the field of phoneticsen_US
