The present study consists of an observation of a dieback of natural stands of holm oak (Quercus ilex L.) In the forest massifs of Chettaba located in the southwestern area of Constantine. This decline includes the defoliation of the tree, the discoloration of the crown and / or its death, which can have biotic and abiotic causes. The objective of this study is to analyze the effect of density, total height and diameter on defoliation and mortality of this species. The results obtained indicate that 54.55% of the trees show signs of dieback characterized by weak defoliation while 11.11% of the trees are strongly affected. The discoloration of 18% of the inventoried trees is observed. In the light of these results, a correlation between density and defoliation of trees is noted. The analysis of dieback deserves a thorough diagnosis to better identify the causes of this phenomenon.en_US
