Based on the premise that widows are on the side lines of literary discourse, this article examines the portrayal of the rebellious widow in Justine Minsta’s Histoire d’Awu(2016) and in Emmanuel Dongala’s Photo de groupe au bord du fleuve(2010). This study analyzes the treatment the widow receives in her community, especially during her time of grief and loss. The factors that influence the lives of widows are rooted in the sociocultural parameters that shape the common consciousness. On the backdrop of the feminist ideology proposed by Maria Pia Lara (1998) this work aims to show how these widows resist cultural scripts prescribed for their lives. This study concludes that widows can save themselves from the subjugations that weigh on their livesen_US
