Survival in Jack London’s “To Build a Fire” and “The Call of the Wild”

Abstract

This study attempts to investigate the manifestation of naturalism and examine the themes in the two short stories of an American writer named Jack London. Analyze the forces of nature and their impact on the characters in Jack London's "The Call of the Wild" and "To Build a Fire" to demonstrate how the environment shapes human destiny. Jack London reveals the indifference of nature toward humans and highlights the conflict between man and nature. Our particular aim is to explain how this American writer shares the same literary style in his stories, which makes him belong to naturalism. Demonstrate that naturalist traits are instances of both the content and the forms.

Cette étude tente d'enquêter sur la manifestation du naturalisme et examiner les thèmes des deux nouvelles d'un écrivain américain nommé Jack London. Analysez les forces de la nature et leur impact sur les personnages de Jack "The Call of the Wild" et "To Build a Fire" de London pour montrer comment le l’environnement façonne la destinée humaine. Jack London révèle l'indifférence de la nature envers les humains et met en lumière le conflit entre l'homme et la nature. Notre particulier l'objectif est d'expliquer comment cet écrivain américain partage le même style littéraire dans ses histoires, ce qui le fait appartenir au naturalisme. Démontrer que les traits naturalistes sont instances du contenu et des formes.
