Vulgarizing the Translation of Medical Discourse from English into Arabic

Abstract

This study aims to demonstrate the changes that occur while vulgarizing medical discourse, and to figure out the techniques used by translators during this process to make the medical text understandable for the general public. To study this issue, we have hypothesized that translating medical discourse for non-specialized audience differs significantly from translating for specialized audience which requires vulgarization in Arabic. In order to validate this hypothesis, we opted for a comparative analytical approach, in this perspective, we worked on an edited scientific paper in kidney disease translated from English into Arabic as a case study

Cette étude vise à démontrer les changements qui se produisent lors du la vulgarisation du discours médical, et comprendre les techniques utilisées par les traducteurs au cours de ce processus. Afin de rendre le texte médical compréhensible pour le public général. Pour étudier cette problématique, nous avons émis l'hypothèse suivant : traduire un discours médical pour un public de non spécialistes est complètement différent de la traduire pour un public de spécialistes, ce qui nécessite une vulgarisation en arabe. Afin de valider cette hypothèse, nous avons opté pour une approche comparative analytique, dans cette perspective, nous avons travaillé sur un article scientifique édité sur les malades rénales traduit de l'anglais vers l'arabe étude de cas.

تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى إبراز التغييرات التي تطرأ عند تبسيط الخطاب الطبي واكتشاف التقنيات التي يستعملها المترجمين في تلك العملية، من اجل جعله مفهوما للجمهور العام. ولدراسة هذه الإشكالية، افترضنا ان ترجمة الخطاب الطبي للجمهور غير المتخصص تختلف تماما عن ترجمته للجمهور المتخصص، مما يتطلب التبسيط في اللغة العربية. من أجل التحقق من صحة هذه الفرضية اخترنا نهجا تحليليا مقارنا. ومن هذا المنظور، عملنا على ورقة علمية محررة حول أمراض الكلى مترجمة من الإنجليزية إلى العربية نموذجا.
