Navigating Translation: A Study of Derivation (Ishtiqaq) and Discovery (Istinbat) in Ihsan Abbas’ Arabic Rendition of Herman Melville’s ‘Moby-Dick’

Abstract

This research focuses on the most effective methods to help translators adapt to the problem of standardization, especially in the modern Arab world, and it aims at investigating which procedures help the translator overcome the problem of the lack of equivalents in the recipient language, particularly in translating Culture Specific Items in literary works. To achieve this initial objective, a descriptive analysis of both texts was carried out, given that this study falls within the framework of the Translation descriptive studies. The samples contained the most representative words, and was analyzed using the model presented by H. Zeghar (2022). This research was conducted by analyzing Culture Specific Items in Herman Melville's master piece Moby-Dick, which was published in 1851 and its Arabic translation by the Palestinian Ihsan Abbas. The Culture Specific Items referenced in the story were extracted along with their Arabic translation and handling to demonstrate the methods utilized in coining new terms or reviving abandoned words, and even Arabicized ones

Cette recherche concentre sur les méthodes du problème de la standardisation des termes , surtout dans le monde arabe moderne, et vise à rechercher des stratégies qui aident le traducteur à surmonter le problème de ne pas avoir d'équivalent dans la langue cible en particulier dans la traduction d'œuvre littéraires.Pour atteindre cet objectif initial,une analyse descriptive a été réalisée pour les deux textes,étant donné que cette étude s'inscrit dans le cadre d'études descriptives de traduction. les échantillons contenait les mots les plus représentatifs qui retenaient l'attention du lecteur et étaient quelques peu ambigue,et ils ont été analysés. En utilisant le modèle présenté par le professeur Hamza Zeghar (2022). Cette recherche a été menée sur..la méthode d'analyse des termes culturellement spécifiques dans le roman "Moby Dick "du célébre auteur Herman Melville, publié en 1851 en parallèle de son traduction arabe de " La Baleine "ou "Moby Dick " du Palastenian Ihssan Abbas(le serviteur de la culture et du patrimoine arabes).Il s'agissait également de montrer les méthodes suivies pour inventer de nouveaux termes ou faire revivre des mots arabisés.

ﯾﺮﻛـــﺰ ھﺬا اﻟﺒﺤـــﺚ ﻋﻠﻰ أﻧﺠــﻊ اﻷﺳﺎﻟﯿــﺐ اﻟﺘﻲ ﺗﺴﺎﻋــﺪ اﻟﻤﺘﺮﺟﻤﯿﻦ ﻋﻠﻰ اﻟﺘﻜﯿـــﻒ ﻣﻊ ﻣﺸﻜــﻠﺔ ﺗﻮﺣﯿــﺪ اﻟﻤــﺼﻄﻠﺢ، ﺧــﺎﺻﺔ ﻓﻲ اﻟﻌــﺎﻟﻢ اﻟﻌﺮﺑﻲ اﻟﺤــﺪﯾﺚ، وﯾﮭـــﺪف إﻟﻰ اﻟﺒﺤـﺚ ﻋﻦ اﻻجراءات اﻟﺘﻲ ﺗﺴﺎﻋــﺪ اﻟﻤﺘﺮﺟـــﻢ ﻋﻠﻰ اﻟﺘﻐـــﻠﺐ ﻋﻠﻰ ﻣﺸﻜـــﻠﺔ ﻋـﺪم وﺟــﻮد ﻣﻜــﺎﻓﺊ ﻓﻲ اﻟﻠﻐﺔ اﻟــﮭﺪف، وﻻ ﺳــﯿﻤﺎ ﻓﻲ ﺗﺮﺟﻤــﺔ وﻟﺘﺤﻘﯿــﻖ ھـــﺬا اﻟﮭــﺪف اﻷوﻟﻲ، أُﺟﺮي ﺗﺤﻠﯿﻞ وﺻﻔﻲ ﻟﻜﻼ اﻟﻨﺼﯿﻦ، ﺑﺤﻜﻢ أن ھــﺬهاﻷﻋﻤﺎل اﻷدﺑﯿﺔ. اﻟﺪراﺳﺔ ﺗﻨﺪرج ﻓﻲ إطﺎر اﻟﺪراﺳﺎت اﻟﻮﺻﻔﯿﺔ ﻟﻠﺘﺮﺟﻤﺔ. واﺣﺘﻮت اﻟﻌﯿﻨﺎت ﻋﻠﻰ اﻟﻜﻠﻤﺎت اﻷﻛﺜﺮ ﺗﻤﺜﯿﻼً وﺟﺮى ﺗﺤﻠﯿﻠﮭﺎ ﺑﺎﺳﺘﺨـــﺪام اﻟﻨﻤﻮذج اﻟﺬي ﻗﺪﻣــﮫ اﻷﺳﺘــﺎذ ﺣﻤــﺰة زﻏﺎر (2022) ﺣﯿﺚ اﺟﺮي ھﺬا اﻟﺒﺤﺚ ﻋﻦ طﺮﯾﻖ ﺗﺤﻠﯿﻞ اﻟﻤﺼﻄﻠﺤﺎت ذات اﻟﺨﺼﻮﺻﯿﺔ اﻟﺜﻘﺎﻓﯿــﺔ ﻓــﻲ رواﯾـــﺔ Dick Moby-ﻟﻠﺮواﺋﻲ اﻟﺸﮭﯿﺮ ھﯿﺮﻣﺎن ﻣﯿﻠﻔﯿﻞ اﻟﺘﻲ ﻧﺸﺮت ﻓﻲ ﻋﺎم 1851ﺑﺎﻟﻤﻮازاة ﻣﻊ ﺗﺮﺟﻤﺘﮭﺎ اﻟﻌﺮﺑﯿﺔ"اﻟﺤﻮت" أو "ﻣﻮﺑﻲ دﯾﻚ" ﻣﻦ ﻗﺒﻞ اﻟﻔﻠﺴﻄﯿﻨﻲ إﺣﺴﺎن ﻋﺒﺎس وﺗمت ﻣﻌﺎﻟﺠﺘـــﮭﺎ أﯾﻀﺎ ﻹظﮭـــﺎر اﻟﻄﺮاﺋﻖ اﻟﻤﺘﺒﻌﺔ ﻓﻲ ﺳﻚ ﻣﺼﻄﻠﺤﺎت ﺟﺪﯾـــﺪة أو إﺣﯿﺎء اﻟﻜﻠﻤﺎت اﻟﻤﮭﺠـــﻮرة، وﺣﺘﻰ اﻟﻜﻠﻤﺎت اﻟﻤﻌﺮﺑﺔ.
